10/31/21 - Retired CBC Vancouver VTR Technician Robert Kluyt passed away October 14th at age 85. He retired from the Corporation on July 1, 1992. A memorial/ celebration of life ceremony is planned for the lower mainland next summer.  PG Citizen Obituary

10/19/21 - Following the cyber attack on Sinclair Broadcast Group over the weekend, which impacted most of its TV stations, KOMO-TV Seattle issued a brief statement. It stated in part, "Despite the significant technical challenges, we will continue our commitment to coverage of local and national news. 10/19/21 - Dish Network has filed a complaint with the FCC, charging that Tegna is not negotiating a new retransmission deal in good faith. 10/18/21 - Sinclair Broadcast Group has confirmed that it has identified and is investigating and taking steps to contain a potential security incident. The Company has identified that certain servers and workstations in its environment have been encrypted with ransomware, and that certain office and operational networks were disrupted. 10/08/21 -  The BC Sports Hall of Fame is paying tribute to six winners of the annual Eric Whitehead Inspired Service Awards, including popular radio and television broadcaster Barry Macdonald.  The awards are named after former Vancouver Province sports editor, founder and first curator of the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 1966. 10/01/21 - Vancouver accordionist Len Holland died in Burnaby September 25 at age 96. He played on the stages of Vancouver's vaudeville circuit, making his radio debut on CKWX in 1932 at age 7. Ed Mason

9/30/21  - Ed Mason, who spent most of his news career at stations in Edmonton, with a short stint in Victoria, has died at age 75. He was News Director of CKDA Victoria in the early 1970s, before moving to Toronto and then back to Edmonton. Mason retired from Corus Radio in August 2014 after nearly 50 years on air. 9/29/21 - Former News 1130 CKWX Vancouver Managing Editor Bruce Claggett has been appointed Managing Director by Switchboard Public Relations. He is a 30-year veteran of Vancouver news radio, having worked for both CKNW AM 980 and News 1130. 9/29/21 - Dale Hicks, former CHAN-TV Vancouver reporter and later Manager of Camera Assignments at BCTV/ Global, passed away Saturday night at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster at age 78. He recently suffered a Triple A (ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm).

9/29/21 - Former TSN 1040 Vancouver Canucks hockey analyst Dave Tomlinson is resurfacing in Seattle, according to a Daily Hive’s resident sports media expert Tyler Green. He will be part of Seattle Kraken broadcasts on KJR AM 950, according to Green. 9/29/21 -  Scott Rintoul has been let go from Sportsnet 650 CISL Vancouver. He had been hosting a four-hour-long show with Karen Surman from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Longtime on-air personality Adam Forsythe has also confirmed he was part of today's layoffs. 9/29/21 - Lotus Communications has closed on its acquisition of the Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. radio stations in the Seattle market. The deal includes KOMO AM 1000 & FM 97.7, KPLZ-FM 101.5 and KVI AM 570. The $18 million purchase of the stations was originally announced in June.  Radio Online

9/28/21 - Longtime Vancouver broadcaster and BCIT Broadcast and Media Communications faculty member Dennis O’Neill passed away at his home on Friday, September 24th. He was 63. 8/22/21 - On July 14 the FCC granted Bustos Media a change of Community of Licence for KZTM-FM 102.9.  The COL change re-licensed the prior Centralia station to McKenna, WA. Bustos acquired the former KFNY outlet for US $3 million back in 2019 in the Ocean State Trust II divestiture process. Bustos Media's full intentions became public on August 11, when the corporation filed a modification to move the transmitter site to the Olympic Peninsula, co-located with the proposed KJET Union buildout. The new location will provide a 60 dBu contour over much of King County including all of Seattle, far better than their current location. She joins on September 7, but will be working with the national federal election team covering the Indigenous beat for her first couple of weeks until voting day.

7/16/21 - Pioneer Vancouver broadcaster Wilf Ray passed away July 11th at age 94. He started his lengthy radio career at CKMO in 1944. Ray later hosted a Sunday night gospel program from 1965 to 2008, first on CJOR, then on CJJR-FM and later on CKBD, making him one of the longest running broadcasters in Canadian radio. He also served as Director of Corporate Communications for the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group from 1966-80.

7/09/21 - Further details on the recently granted change of transmitter location and community of license to Kent for KKDZ AM 1250. The new transmitter location is the old KMIA AM 1210 night site just east of Auburn. The site was purchased last year by Sukhdev Dhillon, who also purchased the transmitter site for KMIA. The KMIA Site was approved by the FCC for the new location of KZIZ AM 1560, which will be diplexed with KMIA. According to Dhillon, he plans to construct the 1250 and 1560 facilities at the same time.

5/08/21 - A semi-trailer wrapped with the logo of The Bull KNUC-FM 98.9 Seattle was one that was demolished in an early morning, multi-vehicle pileup on I-5 Friday. 3/22/21 - Legendary Vancouver broadcaster Red Robinson has hosted the RPM Lunch (Radio Performers Membership) for past and present radio hosts twice-yearly for two decades, which has been curtailed since the start of the pandemic last year. Former CKWX announcer turned professional photographer Dave Roughan took a series of photos at the lunch April 14, 2015. It was held in memory of radio host Fred Latremouille, who had passed away a month earlier on March 5 at age 69. The montage can be viewed here at Roughan's YouTube channel.

The modification just granted calls for duplexing the existing KMIA Towers on the west side of Auburn. The station's owners recently purchased the property from the Garre family who started the Auburn station as KASY back in the late '50s. Bustos Media, current owner of KMIA, is now leasing the property from the owners of KZIZ.

2/09/21 - Bell Media has pulled the plug on its sports talk programming on CKST AM 1040 Vancouver. The station is currently running music with announcements that a new format is coming at 7:00 a.m. Friday. According to an internal email sent to staff from Bell management and obtained by Postmedia, the station will re-launch Friday under the “Funny” format. CKST was also the radio broadcast partner of both the Canadian Football League’s B.C. 2/07/21 - KIRO-TV Seattle announced this morning on its Facebook page that it is back on AT&T and DIRECTV.  KIRO and 13 other Cox Media Group stations were pulled off the service last Tuesday due to a carriage dispute. The two sides have signed a new multiyear agreement.

1/05/21 - An obituary has been published for legendary KJR and KOL Seattle broadcaster and concert promoter Dick Curtis, who died December 26 in Olympia at age 87. 1/04/21 - The 20th year of the KING 5 Seattle annual Home Team Harvest food drive raised more meals for Northwest Harvest than ever before.
